Gerda Åkesson, was a painter, graphic artist and ceramicist - originally trained as a dancer she studied at Marcel Gromaire's art school in Paris, P. Rostrup Bøysen's painting school 1939-42 and at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts with Elof Risebye and Vilhelm Lundstrøm between 1943-46. She made her debut at the Artists' Autumn Exhibition in 1944. Gerda Åkesson mainly painted motifs from the world of ballet and exhibited both at home in Denmark and in Paris, where she lived for many years. From 1962 she found a new direction and executed several larger works often in a rhythmically abstract language.
