Pär Sigurd Siegård was born in Helsingborg in 1887. He trained in Helsingborg from 1902 to 1907 and then in Paris, Stockholm and Gothenburg as a student of the well-known Swedish painter and photographer Carl Wilhelmsson (1866-1928). Siegård left Sweden in 1911 and travelled to Germany, Switzerland, France, Algeria, Egypt, Palestine, Greece, Turkey, Austria and Italy. He first exhibited, with Albert Abbe at the Helsingborg Art Hall in 1916, returning to Paris in 1921 where he became a member of the Swedish artist's group 'De Tolv' (The Twelve). Several members of the group were in Paris at the time studying under the French sculptor, painter, teacher and writer André Lhote. 'De Tolv contributed to the modernist breakthrough in southern Sweden between 1924 and 1934. Siegård participated in the group's exhibitions at Malmö Museum, Vikingsberg Art Museum, the Free Exhibition Building (Den Frie Udstillings) in Copenhagen (1930) and the Royal Academy (Konstakademien), Stockholm (1933). Siegård exhibited extensively throughout his career. Examples of his work are held in the collections of the Moderna Museet (Museum of Modern Art) and Nationalmuseum (National Museum) in Stockholm, the Malmö and Gothenburg Museums, Lund University Art Museum, Ystad Art Museum, Nasjonal Museet, Oslo, Turku Art Museum, Finland and the Tallinn City Museum, Estonia
